To conclude its 2015-16 season, NakedEye explores the idea of memory and nostalgia in works by seven of today’s culture-defining composers. We travel into the worlds of folk music, Brahms, Cole Porter, David Foster Wallace, rock ’n’ roll and the Modernists, the atom bomb and Puccini’s famous aria “Nessun dorma” through the lens of NY-based composers Judd Greenstein, Missy Mazzoli, Randall Woolf, Texas-based Ethan Wickman, Australian Erik Griswold, and Frank Zappa, one of the first rock musicians to bridge the gap between “pop” and “serious” music, helping artists in the 21st century like Bryce Dessner (The Nationals) and Glenn Kotche (Wilco) venture “outside their established styles” and write for contemporary classical ensembles. NakedEye once again brings its signature cross-genre style to Lancaster New Sounds, inviting you not to sit back and relax, but to lean forward and listen!
